Country of Arrival is Hubert Moore’s twelfth full collection of poems. Its predecessor, Owl Songs (Shoestring Press, 2021), was published as a pocketbook, its contents all being poems of 13 lines. In Country of Arrival the level of both amazement and alarm is higher and many of the poems have refused to be contained within 13 lines.

‘Moore has the gift of touching on all our hopes, inconsistencies, idiosyncrasies, and longings. His gift of communication is profound,’ Wendy French writes in London Grip. ‘His poetry is in the street. There is no pretentiousness. He demonstrates a sense of humour, an enjoyment of living on the one hand while on the other he has the ability to show compassion with fresh invigorating poems that can move a reader to tears. Although the poems in Owl Songs vary in content, the style is consistent throughout, short poems with short lines all being connected through the fragility of being human.’
