Christine McNeill was born in Vienna and has published the poetry collections Kissing the Night (Bloodaxe), The Outsider, The Scent Gallery and First and Last Music (all with Shoestring Press). She has translated Rilke’s poem cycle The Life of the Virgin Mary (Dedalus Press), and co-translated The Book of Hours (Agenda Editions). Poetry translations have appeared in a variety of literary magazines.

“The first thought that Christine McNeill’s title First and Last Music inspires is, ‘Is this a collection about music – perhaps its relationship with poetry – or is this just a metaphor for life and death?’ She has succeeded in making the book all these things.” – Dilys Wood, Artemis poetry

On The Scent Gallery:
“Christine McNeill keeps form courteously in the background until the content forces you to realise just how delicate her touch has been…” – William Bedford, Agenda

“There’s a sense that the writer is constantly alert to the visual, whether it’s a reflection on a cave painting that begins the book, or Chagall’s dream horse in the final poem.” – Jackie Wills, The Warwick Review

On The Outsider
“These emphatic, deeply felt poems, with their sense of sacredness violated, are artistically done.” – Herbert Lomas, Ambit
