Derrick Buttress, 1932-2016

The Press deeply regrets having to report the death of Derrick Buttress, one of its most cherished authors. Shoestring published Derrick’s wonderful memoirs of his working-class upbringing in Nottingham, Broxtowe Boy and Music While You Work, as well as five collections of his poetry, Waiting for the InvasionMy Life as a Minor CharacterDestinationsWelcome to the Bike Factory, and, most recently, The Orthopaedic Hospital Great Escape. We also published a collection of his short fiction, Sing to Me.

A filler appreciation of this unfailingly shrewd, witty, generous-hearted observer of the human scene will appear at a later date.

All are invited to Derrick’s funeral:

Date: Thursday, 22 December 2016

Time: 2.20pm
