Richard Kell taught English and American Literature at undergraduate level. In earlier years he reviewed poetry for the Guardian, and after retirement co-edited Other Poetry. His work as a poet was first published in 1946 and several solo collections appeared later. His Collected Poems (2001) were judged ‘excellent value’ by John Greening in the TLS. Under the Rainbow (2003), Letters to Enid (2004) and Taking a Break (2008) had appreciative reviews from, respectively, Greg Delanty in PN Review, Josephine Dickinson in Other Poetry and Jim Burns in Ambit.
