Angela Kirby

Angela Kirby was born in Lancashire in 1932 and now lives in London. Apart from bringing up five children, she has worked as a freelance journalist and a fiction writer with five books and booklets published so far on cooking, gardening and related subjects. Her poems have appeared in magazines and anthologies and have won prizes and commendations in a number of major competition.

Kirby’s first collection Mr Irresistible, published by Shoestring Press in 2005, was widely and enthusiastically acclaimed and became a bestseller. Her new collection draws on the strengths that distinguished Mr Irresistible, “humane and well crafted” (Michael Donaghy) and full of “feisty detail” (Maurice Riordan), and and provides a new eloquence, especially in a number of deeply-considered elegies.

“Beautifully understated at times, often very intelligently funny, full of sharp observation… Marvellous to make such a unique debut at her age.”

Michael Donaghy

“Angela Kirby’s poems delight with feisty detail and move us with their honesty and directness.”

Maurice  Riordan
